The Lowdown on Mini Laptop Computers
Advertisements:
In recent years, mini laptop computers have decreased in size dramatically, while increasing performance, which has ushered in a new dimension of portable computing. Just a fraction of the weight they were just a few years ago, they can now be easily transported inside purses, small laptop sleeves, book bags and more.
They are excellent for the habitual traveler or mobile user who needs to move around frequently but doesn't want the feeling of carrying around luggage with them in the process. Modern mini notebook computers are also capable of running the most widely used and trusted operating systems such as Windows XP, Mac OSX and numerous Linux distributions.
So with all the choices, which mini notebook will suit your needs best? Here's a breakdown of some choices you may consider:
Best Mini Laptop
One of the most voted for mini laptops through Intellreview is the Asus EEE PC, which packs a whopping 9.5 hours of battery life on one charge. The drawback however is that it comes standard with a Linux OS which isn't the most user friendly, especially to WIndows users.
One possibility is changing the OS over to Windows, and according to Amazon reviews, this is a pretty basic task. However some users needed more tech savvy support or friends in order to do the migration.
Smallest Laptop
Previously, the MacBook Air which was featured in those Apple commercials being removed from a manilla folder was the smallest and thinest notebook. We're partial to the Mac ourselves, and so this is our favorite of the very small, thin notebooks, but recently the Sony Vaio X505 has taken the cake.
It's razor thin with a carbon fiber shell, weighing in at a mere 1.7 lbs with a 10.5 inch screen and 1.5 hours of battery life. This clearly isn't enough for the average mobile user, and further, it won't run major apps. Most laptop reviewers aren't very favorable with the Vaio overall.
Additional Mini Laptops to Consider
The MSI Wind ships preloaded with Windows XP and features a full-size keys rather than down sized keys like many other laptops on the market. Reviewers stated that it takes some getting used to, but that it is more user-friendly than other mini notebooks. It also contains more USB ports than most of the competition.
As stated above, the newest generation of mini laptop computers are extremely versatile, portable, light, and user-friendly. They now feature an amazing amount of functionality and capability using the apparatus systems you've come to know and love.
For the video users out there, most mini notebooks now come with built-in WebCams, however many users are upset that the mini notebook market largely lacks Bluetooth functionality which makes file transfer much easier than carrying a CD-ROM. However, the USB drive overcomes some of these challenges and enables users to work with external CD drives.
